SEPTEMBER 11TH REMEMBRANCE

The Student Council presented a very memorable assembly to grades 1-8 and the staff and faculty of the school on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on America. Under the supervision of their moderators the students planned and presented a solemn remembrance. A large bell was tolled through the arcades calling the grades to the lower playground. After gathering in silence, students recited “The Fireman’s Prayer”. Three of our fifth graders, sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” while the flag was raised and then lowered to half-mast. As we listened to Alan Jackson’s “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning”, children and adults took time to remember their whereabouts and thoughts that day five years ago. The Student Council members led us in a meditation and then closed with a prayer remembering those who died or were injured and their families, the first responders, and all of us saddened and frightened by the events. Our thanks to all involved, including those who constructed the lovely memorial placed at the foot of the flagpole for all to see throughout the day.
