Eighth Grade - Mrs. Mares

Your mind will always believe everything you tell it.

Feed it faith. Feed it truth. Feed it with love.

Welcome to OLG’s Eighth Grade Homeroom and Seventh and Eighth Grade Literature and Language Arts. My name is Erin Mares, and my passion is teaching, inspiring, and challenging children to love learning. I feel very blessed to work in a community where I can share my faith. I also consider it a privilege to work with the junior high students as their journey at OLG comes to an end.

Like my students, I am a "Life Long Learner". I attended Catholic Schools in the Diocese of San Diego. I have a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston along with my teaching credential. I am always on the lookout for new, meaningful, and creative strategies that enhance the classroom environment.

I have previously taught in the primary grades, and upon returning to teaching after taking time off to be a stay at home mom, I have ensconced myself in junior high and am thoroughly enjoying the nuances of working with young teens. Together, the students and I work hard to create an environment where learners are safe to risk and develop a growth mindset.

Two of my favorite words that I use to describe myself are wife and mom. My husband, ten-year-old son, and I love being outdoors hiking trails, surfing waves, or exploring parks all over Southern California. If we are indoors, it is "cooking time". Did I mention - we love to eat!!!

I hope you are ready for a year of working hard,

praying often, and having fun!
