    Dear Students and Parents,
Hello, and Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families. The beginning of the school year went by quickly, and I want to thank all of you for making my transition to Our Lady of Grace School easy! I realize that I am very blessed to have such wonderful students with supportive families. We have a very busy few months ahead. Here are some highlights:

Religion: Over the next few months, we will be focusing on the First, Second, and Third Commandments. Through conversation and reflection in class, the students show their deep faith and trust in God.
Math: The students are continuing with long division. Up next, decimals and fractions!

Language Arts: We are currently writing narratives about An incident you experienced with an animal. We work on these stories in class, while learning the writing process, including how to edit and proofread. Next, we will learn how to write summaries. We will also continue with our weekly spelling and vocabulary groups.

Reading: We will continue to make reading a priority in our class, with reading logs and weekly journal writing. The students have done a stellar job with their journal writing so far, and they have improved immensely since the beginning of the school year. Also, we will soon be reading novels together in class.

Social Studies: We are currently finishing studying various Native American groups in California. Next, we will be studying different explorers in California!

Science: Our next area of study is Physical Science. We will be studying matter, force and motion, electricity and magnetism, as well as light and sound.

    Other Announcements:
    Open House: January 27
Catholic Schools Week: Beginning January 30
Grandparents Day: February 2 (Fourth Grade will be leading the Liturgy).
Old Town Field Trip: February 14 (Please email me if interested in driving/chaperoning).
Gold Rush Day: March 6 (Please email me if interested in helping that day).

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation!

    Sincerely,
    Miss Herbert

    Dear Students and Parents,

Hello, and welcome to fourth grade!  My name is Miss Herbert, and I am so very excited to be a part of Our Lady of Grace’s community.  I am new to Our Lady of Grace School, and I anticipate a great school year with both students and parents.  I have taught many grades, including first, second, fourth, fifth, and seventh grade.  I am so happy to be able to learn and grow together with you this year. In fourth grade, we will learn many exciting things, grow in our faith, and become independent, responsible learners.  Here are some highlights:

Religion: We will be learning about the Ten Commandments and what the commandments mean in our lives.

Math:  We will multiply and divide larger numbers.  We will learn about fractions and decimals.  We will even explore algebra as well!

Language Arts:  We will be using our creativity and practice our writing through fiction stories, narratives, response to literature, and summaries.  We will also practice spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and different types of sentences.

Reading:  We will practice our reading skills with many different kinds of books.  We will be working together in small groups to become better readers and discuss our thinking with each other.

Social Studies: We will explore the state of California, including regions, within California, the Missions, and the Gold Rush.

Science:  We will examine different types of rocks and minerals on Earth, discover different kinds of plants and animals, investigate the solar system and the weather, and learn about the systems of the human body.

See you soon, and I look forward to a wonderful year in the fourth grade!

    Sincerely,

    Miss Herbert
